Welcome to Bouzouki ny Night - the Greek experience

An experience that brings generations together

We are not a modern fine-dining spot, nor the latest trendy gourmet restaurant. We are a long-standing, taverna-style place in the heart of Manchester, known for its warm atmosphere and authentic, home-cooked cuisine. For years, we have taken pride in making our guests feel at home and offering meals prepared with genuine care and tradition.

At our restaurant, we welcome people who first came here thirty or even forty years ago. Now they return with their children and grandchildren — whole families, three generations together, not only sharing a meal but also enjoying something interactive: an experience that invites laughter, discovery, and connection.

The youngest ones discover that grandma still knows how to dance Greek folk dances. Grandma gets emotional, remembering all the milestones she has celebrated here — birthdays, anniversaries, even hen nights — and she beams as everyone enjoys the famous spinach pie. Her daughter quietly asks for the recipe, so she can surprise everyone at Sunday dinners.

It’s a special feeling to return to a place that has become part of your own story.

Our food is made with care, based on beloved, healthy Greek “Mama’s” recipes full of aroma and freshness — as heartwarming as it gets. We take pride in using only the freshest vegetables and meats, and our salads are always prepared with premium extra virgin olive oil. Greek music, dances, and traditions — like the plate-breaking ritual to ward off the evil eye (always done safely, and kids can join in) — add extra fun and joy.

It’s an experience the whole family can enjoy — whether celebrating a special occasion or just wanting something beautiful, different, and authentically Greek — full of flavor, music, and smiles.

We can’t wait to create more wonderful memories with you, around a table filled with love, laughter, and Greek spirit

9 Of The Best Restaurants With Live Music Going On In Manchester

From flamboyant, theatrical-style spots to cosy, casual bars, here's our rundown of the best restaurants with live music in Manchester.

Fancy a bite to eat with a side of music? Well luckily for diners in Manchester you can have both as the city is filled with restaurants offering live music most nights of the week (if not every night) to keep us both full and entertained. From intimate eateries to restaurants roaring with atmosphere, here are the best spots in Manchester for food, drink and live music.

Bouzouki by Night

This cosy Greek taverna found on Princess Street comes to life every weekend – bringing a slice of Aegean entertainment to the rainy city. Beloved by locals for over 30 years for its delicious Greek grub, Bouzouki‘s ‘By Night’ element is also what draws people in to visit. After filling up on pita and houmous, halloumi, kofta, chicken skewers and mousaka, guests are invited to get up and join the “big fat Greek good time”, withtons of dancing and singing to get involved in on the DIY dancefloor. It’s a little bit like the fun escapades you’d expect from a Mamma Mia! film, except so much better (given this is in real life).

7 Of The Most Game-Changing Gyros Spots In And Around Manchester

Gyros have stolen the street food spotlight in recent months, and we simply can't get enough.

It’s time for the loaded cheeseburger to move over, because there’s a new street food King in town: the gyros. A fairly simple, yet heavenly dish that’s long-lived under the flamboyant shadow of NYC-style pizza and the smashed patty burgers you’ll find on every city centre corner these days, the beloved dish has become a cult fave here in Manchester – and I’m totally on board with the ‘hype’.

Fancy yourself a slice of Aegean comfort grub? Read on for our guide to the best gyros and souvlaki in Manchester.

The Little Greek Shop

One of Manchester’s many hidden lunch spots, The Little Greek Shop serves some of the best gyros in the city – quietly wedged between a SPAR and a Chinese restaurant.

Served grab and go style, guests can expect fillings such as pork, chicken and lamb, all packed with tasty fries and incredibly refreshing salad – as you’d expect. In addition to Greek wraps, the unassuming deli also serves up some pretty tasty pastries packed with ham, feta and more, making for the perfect side dish next time you’re ravenous at lunchtime.

The Hidden Greek Restaurant Where Guests Can Fill Up On Gyros & Dance Mamma Mia-Style A whole world of fun hides behind an unsuspecting door at Bouzouki.

A whole world of fun hides behind an unsuspecting door at Bouzouki.

In a city full of speakeasies and bars behind bars, we’re hardly surprised to hear that the best spots in town are usually hidden – be it behind a pawn shop, a barber or a little Greek shop… The latter of which is where you’ll find Bouzouki by Night.

A cosy Greek taverna found on Princess Street, in Manchester’s bustling city centre, Bouzouki comes to life every weekend – bringing a slice of Aegean entertainment to the rainy city.
Beloved by locals for over 30 years for its delicious Greek grub, guests can tuck into refreshing meze, gyros, mousaka – you name it – alongside more heartwarming authentic stews, meatballs and koftas.

But it’s the ‘By Night’ element where things get particularly exciting. Getting the party started on Fridays and Saturdays, guests of Bouzouki’s Greek Night are treated to a delicious meze banquet made with fresh ingredients (some of which are shipped over straight from Greece!), alongside live entertainment and dancing – providing the ultimate Greek experience.

After filling up on pita and houmous, halloumi, kofta, chicken skewers, mousaka and so, so much more, guests are invited to get up and join the “big fat Greek good time”, with tons of dancing and singing to get involved in on the DIY dancefloor. It’s a little bit like the fun escapades you’d expect from a Mamma Mia! film, except so much better (given this is IRL!).
In addition to their authentic menu, guests can enjoy an array of Greek wines sure to transport you to the Aegean Islands, all served within a traditional Greek space amplified by sea blues, Greek paintings and geraniums at every turn. Like a mini holiday without leaving the city.

19 April 2010

Bouzouki by Night was established by Photis Nasaris and Panos Louroutziatis, who both came to Manchester to study.
Photis got a job at the Takis Taverna – which occupied the same premises in Princess Street now home to Bouzouki by Night – to pay his way through college.
It was at this point that he realised that the restaurant trade was where his future lay – and today he also owns venues in Bolton and Sale.
“I’d been training and working as an accountant, but by night I would help out in the kitchens and later play guitar front-of-house,” said Photis, 52.
“I realised that this was where my heart lay, and I progressed from working in the kitchens and playing guitar to learning the catering side of the business.
“When the previous owner gave me chance to take the business over in 1987, I jumped at the opportunity. On the opening night I had nothing more in the kitchen than two frying pans and a guitar – but somehow we pulled through.
“I also changed the name to Bouzouki by Night, which it had been many years before. I opened another restaurant in Bolton in 1995 and the Sale restaurant in 2000.” Photis now employs 40 staff.

“A Greek experience like nowhere else!”

I call here quite regularly for a takeaway lunch. I have the chicken souvlaki with tzatziki and it is delicious. There are a few other options, like delicious Greek pies, chicken, spinach etc Keftedes are also lovely. It’s a must visit place to fully experience the beautiful home cooked flavours of Greek food.

We bought this as a groupon for my parents birthday. The food was SO good I loved every single thing they brought out. The entertainment was hilarious my parents never dance and they danced the night away even doing some solos. It was absolutely hilerious the staff couldn't have been any more attentive. Just everything about the night I would highly reccomend. Food/Service/Entertainment was just 5* thank you so much we will be visiting again.

Excellent night out and delicious food. Had a great night out with family and friends. Seems a popular place for a Hen Party! Enjoyed the evening, food was delicious and plentiful. Only disadvantage was it was a bit too dark to see what you were eating so if you are fussy I don't think you would like this aspect.
